Why did Tim start DriveAge10?

My original motivation to start DriveAge10 (originally named ‘Autotutors’) was a simple concept. To introduce one of the greatest risks in life (driving) at an earlier age than is typical (17). The hope would be that young people would have more time to enjoy, learn and respect the experience and skill needed to operate a motor vehicle. Resulting in a greater level of driving ability and less probability of being involved in a road traffic collision, when they finally pass the standard driving test.

What does it takes to make the business work effectively?

As business owner at Drive Age 10, I bring my instructor abilities and qualifications, with over 20 year’s experience teaching driver education on road, in classrooms and on race circuits (my original foray in driving).

I have also operated other businesses, providing B2B experience. I have learnt to be adaptable, resilient and to seek out opportunities in everything.

Many of my students have a need, such as anxiety or a diagnosis on the ‘spectrum’. What makes a good driving instructor?

I enjoy teaching, I enjoy the minds of young people and being a part of their learning experience – tailoring the learning so that the best possible outcome is achieved. I use active listening extensively, so as to make sure that I learn as much as possible, about the student’s learning style and their aptitude to the topic being learnt.
